Lima was a long nine hour bus ride south through more of what seemed like a neverending baren wasteland of nothingness. The coast of Peru is extremely dry. If you continue south along the coast you end up in the Atacoma Dessert, the dryest place on earth. I´m not planning on going that far. A funny thing about Lima is that for some reason, during the winter months, it is overcast, foggy, cold, and damp, yet it never rains. I was told by locals that if I wanted to see the sun in Lima I better come back in three or four months. Nine million people live there. . . nine million people, surrounded by emptiness. The city itself is nice enough. It was a little cramped and a little stressed out, but big cities always are. There really wasn´t a ton of stuff to do. . . some nice museums and a very old church complete with catacombs full of old bones (pictures forbidden,) but thats about it. I think maybe Lima is more fun when the suns out and the beaches are all hopping. Lima has your garden variety China Town. I did find one neighborhood that kind of sort of reminded me of New York's lower east side. One day was enough of Lima for me. I was eager to get out of the grey skies and back up into the mountains, which tend to get alot of sun this time of year.
